Divorce is difficult on all parties involved and self-care through a life changing event can help to ground you through the process.

  1. Find a core group of friends/family.  Create a tribe for yourself that is safe and that you can call or go to whenever you need to.  This is not to replace a good therapist however you cannot do this alone.
  2. Exercise!  Exercise can help lower stress and anxiety by stimulating the production of positive hormones and neurochemicals.  Exercise is known to ward off depression and helps us channel our emotions through physical activity.
  3. Practice self-compassion.  Try meditation or positive affirmations.  Do not dwell on the negative.  Try to find some positive in your life.
  4. Connect with nature.  Susan L. Prescott and Alan C. Logan reported how connecting with nature can lower stress hormones, decrease markers of inflammation, improve immune functioning, and facilitate a positive mental outlook.
  5. Sleep!  This is number one!  If you are not getting enough sleep your entire mental and emotional outlook will be off.

These are just a few recommendations.  For more, please follow up with your local therapist or naturopathic doctor.  If you need a referral to someone that specializes in processing divorce, feel free to contact us at info@sdlegaldocs.com.
